Meanwhile, Catherine Piper appears in the lobby, bored and frustrated and enlists Carl's help to help her sue TV networks for not programming for senior citizens. Jerry and Katie take on the case of a student fighting to reacquire her admission to Harvard after being disqualified for endorsing a brain-enhancing drug to help her focus and pass.

Usual partners are mixed up when Carl and Denny travel to Virginia to defend an officer who is accused of murder after shooting a man on death row whose lethal injection caused him to have seizures. Meanwhile, Alan and Shirley take on an employer who allegedly fired one of his workers for voting for John McCain.
Alan and Shirley engage in a heated debate on the subject of teen abortion when a young Chinese girl seeks the court's help to overturn her mother's decision. Meanwhile, Jerry defends himself after he is charged with assault for punching out a customer in a coffee shop.
Alan goes up against Denise Bauer and the USDA when he represents a cattle rancher who is suing the government for not allowing her to test all her livestock for Mad Cow disease. Meanwhile he and Denny argue over the upcoming presidential election, and Jerry goes before the senior partners, including Paul Lewiston, who are reviewing his application for partnership.
Alan and Denny take a long-needed vacation to a dude ranch, where their womanizing ways aren't appreciated by the locals, but avert disaster thanks to Melvin Palmer.
Meanwhile, with Alan gone, Catherine Piper must turn to Shirley to defend her against attempted murder charges when she blows up her doctor's office for giving her medication which causes a heart attack.
Jerry's chance to make partner is in jeopardy when he dresses up for Halloween.
Shirley goes to Alan for help defending a soldier whose brother died due to negligence in a military hospital, but is stunned when she finds Alan and Denny placed a side bet on the outcome.
Meanwhile, Jerry helps his sister find out if her son and his new girlfriend are actually related when she suspects their father is the same sperm doner.
Alan Shore is called upon by ex-flame Phoebe Prentice to prove her husband's innocence in the murder of a nurse. But deep down, Alan's unrequited love for Phoebe makes him hope that her husband is guilty so that they can rekindle their relationship.
Denny is once again arrested, this time after shooting a mugger three times in self-defense. Wanting to improve his chances at becoming partner, Jerry helps Carl in defending him.
Meanwhile, Alan begins to question his attitudes and feelings towards women when he helps his friend Joanna, a sex surrogate, fight her husband who wants sole custody of their daughter.
When Denny faints in the lobby of Crane, Poole & Schmidt, Alan helps him take on the drug companies that contributed to his critical condition.
Meanwhile, Carl helps Shirley's granddaughter Marlena who once again finds herself in legal trouble after voting in the presidential primaries, and Jerry and Katie defend a young girl who was raped in a private prison.
Alan takes on one his biggest adversaries when Bethany returns with a years-old case against the tobacco industry. But when opposing council turns out to be an old girlfriend, he finds himself once again distracted in the courtroom.
Meanwhile, Denny struggles with his deteriorating health condition when his performance in the bedroom isn't up to par.
